The Next Decade

At a conference held May 12 in Amsterdam to celebrate its first 10 years, Wage Indicator outlined its potential for future growth. Speakers’ contributions can be found in The Next Decade.

‘Wage Indicator as an Organization’ is highlighted by Biju Varkkey and Khushi Mehta, Regional Office Wage Indicator Asia, Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad. How sustainable is it?

‘The Impact of Lohnspiegel.de on the Trade Union Movement’ is qualified by Reinhard Bispinck, Project Manager Lohnspiegel.de, Wirtschafts- und Sozialwissenschaftliches Institut (WSI), Düsseldorf. The need for and tips regarding ‘Search Engine Optimization: Brains beat Money’, is underlined by Irene van Beveren, Search Engine Optimizer, Wage Indicator Office, London.

Several contributions highlight the surveys and their potential, i.e. ‘Online Surveys: towards a Global Standard’ by Kea Tijdens, Research Coordinator Wage Indicator, University of Amsterdam/AIAS. ‘The Potential for Global Wage Comparisons’ is indicated by Martin Guzi, Regional Office Wage Indicator Bratislava and Central European Labour Studies Institute, Bratislava. Thirdly the ‘Bias in the Data: so what?’ is treated by Stephanie Steinmetz, University of Amsterdam/AIAS.

The downloadable booklet concludes with minimum and collective wages. ‘Why should Wage Indicator focus on Minimum Wage?’ ask Maarten van Klaveren and Biju Varkkey, University of Amsterdam/AIAS and Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. First results with campaigning around minimum wages are presented by ‘Meusalario.org Campaign: Debates and Publicity’, Egidio G.
