The cleaners and porters at London’s Royal Opera House will receive a pay hike bringing them up to the living wage. The cleaners have been protesting against their low hourly wage of £7, which is not enough to get by in London. After threats of organising a staff protest during the Bafta awards ceremony, the Opera House and subcontractor Mitie caved in and agreed to raise the wages to £8.80 per hour.
