Ireland - Irish Life workers defer strike action after company commitments - January 31, 2016

Members of the Teachers' Union of Ireland are being backed by students in strike action over pay and security for young workers. Secondary school teachers will hold a day of strike action before the general election. Members of the TUI voted 89% in favour of industrial action over issues of pay and security of employment for young teachers. They say the stoppage will go ahead unless their demand for meaningful talks is met. The union says the poor pay and employment security for young teachers is forcing many of them into income poverty. The Union of Students stated that students can understand this position.
