Switzerland - Campaign for basic income has started - January 31, 2016

The country’s constitution foresees in the organisation of referenda and the trade unions have used this instrument several times. In the coming months, there will be a campaign for a basic income. The referendum (in June 2016) is about a basic income paid by the state at such a level that ‘a decent life and participation in society’ can be guaranteed. So far, no amount is fixed, but activists refer to a monthly income of 2500 Swiss Francs (approximately 2300 euro). Recently, the upper house of the Swiss parliament, called for the citizens to vote against an unconditional basic income (UBI) in the national referendum.
